Breathe

I will put breath in you, and you will come to life…. So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood on their feet – a vast army”

Ez 37:6b and 10

After the tendons and skin were added, the bodies were complete, but still had no life. When the breath entered them, they were not merely a individual bodies but a vast army. The breath of the Holy brought unity by filling them with one purpose; to do the will of God. Just as the bones were brought together into one body, so now the bodies are brought together into one army.

We are no longer living for ourselves, serving our own interests, but part of something much bigger. We are individual parts, not indistinct, but fitted together into one whole.

..the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” Gen 2:7

God breathed life into man originally and we cannot be what He intended until He breathes into us once again. Flesh alone is not enough, we must be born again of the Spirit.

..As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you. And with that He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” “ Jn 20:21-22

Jesus imparted the Holy Spirit to His disciples in this same way, restoring what had been lost. Later they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and fire rested upon them as they waited in Jerusalem.

We can breathe deeply, filling our lungs with fresh, clean air and revive our senses in the natural. So too, in the spiritual, we can breathe deeply in the Holy Spirit and let Him permeate our being, reviving our soul and filling us with His life. Allowing the Holy Spirit into all areas of our lives and giving Him authority to transform us will unite us with the body of Christ. He will align our hearts with one purpose; to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, which is the first and greatest commandment.
