“..the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

God never intended us to live in darkness because He is light and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 Jn 1:5) When He created the earth He gave us two great lights, the greater to govern the day, and the lesser to govern the night (Gen 1:16) Even at night we have the moon which reflects the sun, reminding us that it is still shining over the horizon, and will reappear bringing the morning.
Jesus came to shine the light of God; to lead us out of the darkness of sin and death; to show us the way to the Father and the ways of the Father.
“In Him was life, and the life was the light of man.The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood (overcome) it” Jn 1:4-5
Jesus demonstrated how to walk in the light and push back the darkness. What He demonstrated we are meant to walk in, and He sent the Holy Spirit to help us. We have the same power working in us which raised Jesus from the dead. The Holy Spirit will guide us into the truth; lead us in God’s ways; illuminate the scriptures and empower us to serve.
Jesus said “You are the light of the world” Matt 5:14
We, as the body of Christ, are to carry on the work of Jesus and do the things He did.
If there is darkness in your life, go to the source of light and let Him flood in. Don’t be tempted to close off areas or to stay in the shadows. Open up your heart and mind and allow Him to drive out the darkness and fill you with light. Then you will be able to reflect God’s light just as the moon reflects the sun.
We must be the light of the world or people will continue to stumble in the dark. We must let our light shine in humility, not claiming the light to be our own, but unashamedly growing brighter as darkness increases in the world.
